Burgundy
Burgundy varieties are not necessarily from French Burgundy. Burgundy varieties originated here, but they are grown all over the world and are particularly successful here. This group includes Chardonnay and all the Pinot's i.e. white, grey and blue or if you want synonyms Pinot blanc, Pinot gris and Pinot noir. The brick red Pinot Noir will dazzle you with its berry notes and is the ancestor of all the white Burgundian varieties. They are characterised by their elegance, subtle spicy notes and pleasant acidity. Surely you knew that Pinot Noir is used to make red wine, but did you know that you can also make a white wine to look at? Gentle pressing is not enough to get the colouring from the skin of the grapes into the must, resulting in a 'white' wine. You can recognize it by the adjective in the name "blanc de noir",loosely translated as white from dark grapes.
